the elephant's purr

An idea for an invention.

It’s a wedding band or pair ring that’s got some high-tech features. It’s connected via Bluetooth to the smartphone in your pocket. And it’s got a sort of pressure-sensitive outer edge and a tiny motorized inner edge.

So whenever you’re thinking of your spouse or your lover, you squeeze the ring with your fingers. And your spouse/lover’s ring, which is of the same type, slightly contracts around their finger. It gives them a squeeze.

So however far away you may be, you can squeeze each other’s fingers.

We’re accustomed to the Internet connecting us via sight and sound, but not really via touch. But more than any other of the five senses, touch is the sense of love.

(Truth be told, I’d never wear one of these. But as long as it’s stylish, I imagine some people would.)
