自分が普通の人間だと思い込んでいる者は、普通の人間である。

 

なぜ普通じゃない人がいるか理解できない者は、普通の人間である。

 

普通じゃない人がいることさえ理解できない者は、普通の人間である。

You're normal if you're convinced that you're normal.

日本語で「初心者の運」というのかな。英語ではいうけど。ビギナーズラック。

If it wasn't for beginner's luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all.


この僕はダーツを初めて投げたとき、そのまま図星を突いたのだ。

The first time I ever threw a dart, I got a bull's eye.


ボーリングボールを初めて投球したとき、そのままストライク。

ビリヤードを初めてやったとき、神様の技のように一発で三つぐらいの玉が入った。

In my first game of billiards, like some kind of god of the pool cue, I sank like three balls in one shot.


そして初めてライフル銃を撃ったときもよく覚えている。男の子たちが、その辺りで見つけたヒョウタンを並べて撃ってみていた。僕の一発目できれいにヒョウタンを射当てた。リンゴの大きさのヒョウタンだったが、表に小さな穴が空いて、後ろは全部撃ち抜かれて取れてしまっていた。

And I can well remember the first time I fired a rifle. We kids had found some gourds and lined them up on a fence, and with my first shot I cored one neatly. They were about the size of apples; mine had a little hole in the front and the whole back half blown off.


言うまでもないけれど、それからは一度も命中したこともストライクしたこともなかった。むしろ負けっぱなし。

It goes without saying that after that, I never had another bull's-eye or strike again. I lose every game I ever play.
