I've just moved to Shimokitazawa. In nine years in this city, I haven't found anyplace in Tokyo I'd rather live. It's the Japanese Europe (in my imagination).
Almost everything here is old, and I'm sure there are big plans to tear down all the buildings and improve the neighborhood. The higher the rent, the better the neighborhood.
I feel glad to live here while Shimokitazawa is still Shimokitazawa.
下北沢に転居したばかりだ。この都会に９年間住んできたが、下北沢のほど住みたいと思うところは他にどこ一つも見つけていない。日本のヨーロッパ、って感じかな。
ここのあらゆるものはほとんど古い。建物も何も古い。そして土地を牛耳っている者らは、古い建物などをぶっ壊して全部をカイゼンさせるという壮大な企みもきっとあるだろう。家賃が高ければ高いほどそれは良い土地だと。
下北沢はまだ下北沢っぽい場所である間に住めて嬉しく思う。
